Nutswerken in de Matenstraat - Extra fietsers op Galileilaan

Eind januari starten ingrijpende nutswerken in de Matenstraat, de straat van tankstation Q8. Leidingen en nutskabels worden vernieuwd. De verwachting is dat de werken drie maanden tijd in beslag zullen nemen, waarna een nieuwe fase aanvangt. Afdraaien naar 'Niel am See' / Galileilaan zal vanaf eind januari enkel kunnen als je vanuit Niel-centrum komt. De Matenstraat wordt tijdelijk een éénrichtingsstraat ten voordele van het verkeer naar de A12.

Voor wie via het rondpunt nabij de A12 toekomt op het Wetenschapspark, blijft de komende maanden alles normaal.


Let er ook op dat de komende maanden beduidend meer fietsers langs de Galileilaan zullen voorbijkomen. De omweg van de gemeente loopt door de Galileilaan. Houd hier dus rekening mee als je toekomt en vertrekt. Veel scholieren zijn ’s ochtends en in de vooravond op pad. Op onderstaand kaartje is die fietsomleiding in donkerblauw aangegeven.

Momenteel zijn eveneens nog even werken aan station Niel bezig. Wie per trein vanuit Antwerpen of Schelle komt, mag gewoon de overweg blijven oversteken om dan de overkant te bereiken, de gemaakte U-bocht stappen en via de fietsostrade verder wandelen naar het Wetenschapspark.

Utility works in Matenstraat - Extra cyclists on Galileilaan

Major utility works will start in Matenstraat, the street of Q8 petrol station, at the end of January. Pipes and utility cables will be renewed. The works are expected to take three months, after which a new phase will begin. Turning onto 'Niel am See'/Galileilaan will only be possible from the end of January if you are coming from Niel-centre. Matenstraat will temporarily become a one-way street for the benefit of traffic to the A12.

For those arriving at the Science Park via the roundabout near the A12, everything will remain normal for the next few months.

Also note that significantly more cyclists will pass along Galileilaan in the coming months. The municipality's diversions will run through Galileilaan. So take this into account when arriving and leaving. A lot of schoolchildren are out and about at these hours. The attached map shows that cycle diversions in dark blue.
 

Major works are also ongoing at Niel station for a while. Those coming from Antwerp or Schelle can simply keep crossing the level crossing to reach the other side, complete the U-turn made and continue walking to the Science Park via the cycle path.
